Maintain what already exists before building anything new
The problem
Heritage sites and local monuments deteriorate for want of routine maintenance while new tourism infrastructure is announced.
Why it matters
A deteriorated monument cannot be rebuilt, and the deterioration is usually cheap to prevent and expensive to reverse.
Proposed solution
A citizen-photographed condition record for local heritage sites, with maintenance deficiencies filed as tracked issues.
How it would be implemented
Volunteers photograph sites on a schedule; deficiencies are escalated to the responsible authority.
Risks, and what we would do about them
Risk
Publicising a neglected site can increase damage.
Mitigation
Withhold precise location for vulnerable unprotected sites, and consult the responsible authority before publication.
