Access to Justice Union and State (Concurrent)Cost approach stated
Free legal aid that people know exists
The problem
Statutory free legal aid exists, and most eligible citizens do not know about it or how to access it.
Why it matters
An unused remedy protects nobody.
Proposed solution
Maintain and publish a verified district-level directory of legal aid services and eligibility, and help citizens make contact.
How it would be implemented
Directory maintained by volunteers with a verification date on every entry.
Risks, and what we would do about them
Risk
Directing people to an overstretched service creates disappointment.
Mitigation
State realistic waiting times where known. Verify entries on a schedule.
